Authentication and Access

Portal access covers the ways learners enter the LMS and recover access when needed. The available methods are based on the instance's access model.

info

Most learners should not need documentation for login. This page exists to summarize supported access patterns for analysis and planning.

Login Methods

The portal can support several access methods:

  • Single sign-on for company users.
  • Password login when enabled.
  • Token-based links from emails or other systems.
  • Estonian eID login methods, such as ID-card, Mobile-ID, and Smart-ID.
  • Customer-specific login flows, such as employee ID or contractor entry points.

The visible options depend on the instance and the learner's account state.

When eID login is enabled, the learner signs in with an identity method that verifies their Estonian personal ID code. The verified identity must match an LMS user account.

The supported eID options can include:

  • ID-card – uses the Web eID browser extension or native app to authenticate with an Estonian ID-card.
  • Mobile-ID – asks for phone number and personal ID code, then shows a verification code for confirmation on the phone.
  • Smart-ID – can use a personal ID code notification, a QR code scanned with the Smart-ID app, or an app link that opens Smart-ID on the device.

Registration

Some instances allow registration through a registration page or a registration token. Registration can collect email, password, profile fields, and additional customer-specific fields.

Registration can also support existing-user checks, email or phone verification, and guided login after the account is created.

Recovery And Access Issues

The portal includes password recovery where password login is available. If a learner cannot be matched to an account or does not have access to a selected content item, the portal shows an access-related message and can direct the learner to support.
